Astonishingly, an Indore woman has recently confessing to earning a staggering 2.5 lakh in just the last 45 days.?
The story unraveled when the beggar was arrested on Wednesday, 7 December.?
She and her eight-year-old daughter were 'rescued' when officials found a family of five begging at Bhawrasla Square, also known as Luv Kush Square, which is located on Indore-Ujjain road.?The minor has been rehabilitated at a child care home.
They were found at the crossroads following Collector Asheesh Singh's directive for a comprehensive assessment of the city-wide situation.
Other than the two, their family includes the beggar woman's husband and two other children who managed to flee during the intervention.?
The woman earned a whopping 2.5 lakh in 45 days solely through begging.?
She sent Rs. 1 lakh out of it to her two other children residing with their grandparents in Rajasthan, while Rs. 50,000 was allocated for a fixed deposit.?
The remaining Rs. 50,000 was used for undisclosed personal expenses by the family.?
At the time, the woman had Rs. 19,200 with her, representing her earnings from the past 7 days.?Additionally, her daughter garnered Rs. 600 through begging from morning until 1:30 pm.?
The family's collective possessions include land, a home, cars, smartphones, and various electronic devices across different cities.?
The beggar's annual income is estimated to be over Rs 20 lakh. In contrast, a mere 1.3% of the total taxpayers in the country report an annual income exceeding 20 lakh.
The district administration in Indore revealed in the beginning of the month that around 7,000 people are indulging in begging. Astonishingly, half of them are children.?
A target of 15 days was then set to make Indore beggar-free.?
District Collector Ashish Singh stated that efforts will be undertaken to locate children in such circumstances, rescue them, and enroll them in educational programs.?
Additionally, there will be comprehensive counseling for the parents of these children, as many are compelled to resort to begging by their families for various reasons.
