Just a while ago, a woman beggar was arrested in Madhya Pradesh¡¯s Indore. In a bizarre twist, she was found to have earned Rs 2.5 Lakh in six weeks through begging!
On Feb 12, Indira Bai was arrested from the Love Kush Square in the city, where she was spotted begging with her 8-year-old child.?Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman had two other children living in a village in Rajasthan. In Indore, she, her three of her children and other family members, resorted to begging in the streets.
The woman, a repeat offender, possesses a plot of land, a two-storey house in Kota, Rajasthan, a motorcycle, and a phone valued at Rs 20,000.
Following the revelation, the authorities have declared a reward of Rs 1,000 for individuals providing information about any child being coerced into begging in the city, as per a Times of India report.
¡°We are issuing a helpline for this. Anyone who calls us with information on a child beggar can share the location on WhatsApp so that the administration's team can rescue the child," collector Asheesh Singh told the publication.
He further mentioned that individuals supplying credible details about multiple child beggars will receive both felicitation certificates and the designated cash reward.
"Citizens who report incidents of child begging will receive a cash reward. A WhatsApp number, 9691729017, has been designated for reporting child alms practices," read a post shared by the official handle of the Indore Collector on X.
