Police in Kota, Rajasthan have claimed that they have cracked the kidnapping case of a NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh.
According to the police, the woman, identified as Kavya has been traced in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where she has been living with two of her friends for the past several months.
Police started looking for her after the woman's father Raghuveer Dhakad, a resident of Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri filed a complaint on March 18, claiming that she was abducted.?
He also claimed that he had received a Rs 30-lakh ransom demand from her kidnappers who even sent him photos of Kavya tied to a rope.
In a WhatsApp conversation between the abductors and Kavya's father, he can be seen trying to reason with them claiming that he did not have the amount that they were demanding.
Kota City Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan had on Tuesday announced a cash reward of Rs 20,000 for any input leading to the rescue of the girl.
During the probe, the Kota police noticed something strange - the girl was never in the city, from where she was supposed to be abducted.
According to the police, the location of her phone was in Indore for the past 6-7 months.
This contradicted the claims of her father that his wife had taken their daughter to Kota in August last year for exam coaching and she was living in a hostel under the Vigyan Nagar police station area.
She also used to send her parents regular updates about her performance in tests at the coaching institute.
However, police did not find any record of the woman's admission to the institute or at the hostel.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the woman stayed in a hostel in Kota for three days and after her mother left her she moved to Indore and has been living there ever since with her two male friends.
Police said that Kavya and one of her friends wanted to flee abroad for studies, but did not have enough money so they staged the abduction in order to seek ransom.
The woman got the pictures of her staged kidnapping in a common friend's room, the police said.
