Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader KS Eshwarappa who has defied the party orders has filed his nomination as an Independent candidate on Friday from the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency.?The senior BJP leader is set to contest the Lok Sabha polls against BY Raghvendra, the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
Eshwarappa, who was accompanied by his wife Jayalakshmi submitted his nomination papers to the district Returning Officer Gurudatta Hegde at the deputy commissioner's office on Friday.
One of the top leaders of the Karnataka BJP, Eshwarappa rebelled against the party after his son Kantesh Eshwarappa was denied a seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
Eshwarappa wanted the Haveri Lok Sabha constituency for his son but the party fielded former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai from the seat.
The 76-year-old leader is the face of OBCs and the Kuruba community said he is confident of winning and even said that he "dedicate his victory on the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi".
The BJP which was angered by Eshwarappa's use of his photos with PM Modi during the campaign had filed a complaint with the Election Commission.
"Eshwarappa is confusing the voters in order to waste the votes of the BJP. The BJP has fielded its own candidate at Shivamogga, named BY Raghavendra. Therefore, the act of Eshwarappa is misleading the general public to gain votes from the general public by using images of Narendra Modi, which will have bearing on the results of the election. Therefore, it is an offence," it stated.
On Friday, Eshwarappa found a workaround and got a Modi doppelganger to accompany him during his campaign.
Sadananda Nayak, a cook from Hiriyadka town in Udupi district, who has an uncanny resemblance with the Indian PM was seen with Eshwarappa during a massive procession in Rashtrabhaktara Balaga.
