Maharashtra's capital, Mumbai, is set to have three consecutive dry days starting from Saturday, May 18, due to the Lok Sabha Elections. Wine shops and bars in Mumbai city will remain shut from 5 PM on May 18 to 5 PM on May 20. Restaurants within the city limits will also not serve alcohol during the same period when Mumbai votes in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections.
According to a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the constituency where the voting will take place and the adjacent constituencies must observe these dry days. All wine shops and bars will be closed on polling day to maintain public order.

Similarly, Mumbai will observe another dry day on June 4 when votes will be counted until the results of the Lok Sabha Elections are revealed.
There will also be "dry days" in Gurgaon, Haryana, from 6 PM on May 23 to 6 PM on May 25 due to the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, according to reports. Delhi-NCR will similarly prohibit the selling of alcohol on these days.
A total of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra ¡ªDhule, Dindori, Nashik, Kalyan, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central, and Mumbai South¡ªwill go to the polling booths on May 20 in the fifth phase of the general elections.

Apart from Maharashtra, seven more states and Union Territories will vote for a total of 49 seats on May 20. These are Bihar (5), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Jharkhand (3), Ladakh (1), Odisha (5), Uttar Pradesh (14), and West Bengal (7).
