Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 5 Voting: After four phases of voting in the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13, the fifth phase is scheduled for May 20. Phase 5 covers 49 Lok Sabha constituencies across six states and two Union Territories. States like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Maharashtra will participate in Phase 5. Vote counting will take place on June 4.

As usual, polling will begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm. However, voters already in line at 6 pm will still be allowed to vote.
The results of the Lok Sabha Election 2024, covering all phases, will be announced on June 4, 2024. The counting of votes will commence at 8 am on June 4, presenting the final picture of the election. The Lok Sabha elections are conducted in seven phases.
In the fifth phase, a total of 49 Lok Sabha constituencies across 8 states and including two union territories will go to polls. These states are Bihar (5), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Jharkhand (3), Ladakh (1), Maharashtra (13), Odisha (5), Uttar Pradesh (14), and West Bengal (7).

- Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will see 695 candidates contesting from 8 States /UTs.
- A total of 1586 nominations were filed for 49 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) across these 8 States /UTs.
- The last date for filing nominations for Phase-5 in all 8 States/UTs was May 3, 2024.
- After scrutiny, 749 nominations were found to be valid.
- Maharashtra had the highest number of nomination forms with 512 filed for its 13 Parliamentary Constituencies.
- Uttar Pradesh followed closely with 466 nominations from its 14 PCs.
- The Chatra Parliamentary Constituency in Jharkhand received the highest number of nominations with 69, while Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh had 67 nominations.
- On average, there are 14 contesting candidates per Parliamentary Constituency for Phase-5.
- In the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, the voter turnout decreased once again.
- Approximately 67.25% of eligible voters cast their votes across 96 constituencies in 10 states and Union territories.
- This turnout is slightly lower than the 68.8% recorded in 2019.
- The final turnout, to be announced on Friday, may increase as all polling station reports are considered.
- The decrease in voter turnout has been consistent in earlier phases as well.
- In the first phase, 66.14% of voters participated, down from 69.89% in 2019.
- The second phase witnessed a turnout of 66.71%, compared to 69.64% previously.
- Similarly, the third phase saw a turnout of 65.68%, a decrease from 67.3% in 2019.
- Notably, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a significant increase in turnout, rising from 14.39% in 2019 to 37.98% this time.
- Telangana and Odisha also experienced slight increases in turnout.
- In Telangana, 64.74% voted compared to 62.69% in 2019.
- Odisha saw a turnout of 73.97% compared to 73.95% previously.
- The Election Commission reported peaceful polling, with some stations remaining open past 6 pm to accommodate voters still in line.
- Overall, 17.7 crore eligible voters across 1.92 lakh polling stations participated in this phase.
Closing schools and colleges on polling day helps prioritise the safety, security, and efficiency of the electoral process while minimising disruptions to academic activities.
