A doctor who has been at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh lost his life after being infected.
Dr Fazal Karim, a renowned cardiologist at Era¡¯s Lucknow Medical College & hospital (ELMCH), died of COVID-related complications on Wednesday.
Dr. Karim had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 9 and was under home isolation.
He was shifted to the ELMCH on April 16 after his condition deteriorated.
¡°Dr Karim was in home isolation initially and was monitoring his health. We admitted him on April 16 but he died of covid-19 and allied complications on Wednesday early morning. He already had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),¡± informed ELMCH principal Dr MMA Faridi.
The 46-year-old had been working at ELMCH since 2015.
Though the exact number of doctors who have died in the line of duty since the pandemic is still unclear, earlier this month the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had said that 747 doctors have died of Covid-19.
