In a bizarre development, a village sarpanch in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district has decreed an order stating that residents letting their cattle wander freely will be taken to task in an unexpected manner.
As per the recent rule, such people will be slapped five times with a slipper and be made to settle a fine of Rs 500.
The officials from the sarpanch's office went door-to-door in Nagnadui village?to make this diktat public to the community.?
This incident came to light after a video surfaced online wherein officers can be seen making this announcement while playing drums to capture villagers' attention.?
In the video, the officials tell villagers that if their cattle were seen roaming freely in the village, they would be whipped with slippers five times and fined Rs 500.
Following the appearance of the announcement video, villagers have expressed their discontent over it and are protesting against the rule seeking its withdrawal.?
They have sought the sub-divisional magistrate's (SDM) intervention to address the matter. The contentious regulation has sparked a debate on reasonable efforts to deal with cattle roaming issues in the village.
