Man Alleges His Wife Sought Separation To Get 'Divorce Quota' In UPSC Exam
In a rather bizarre case, a man from Rajasthan has claimed that his wife has sought a divorce from him?so that she can?avail of the divorce quota in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. The husband claimed that his wife had pre-planned the divorce to take advantage of the quota, even before they?got?married in 2023.
In a relationship since 2013
According to reports, the husband, who works as a photographer, met his future wife, a resident of Pratapgarh, for the first time in 2013. The duo soon entered into a relationship, and in 2016, the woman moved to Jaipur to prepare for competitive exams.
Married on promise of helping to crack UPSC
After a brief live-in relationship, the couple?got?engaged in 2021, and the woman secured a government job the?next?year. According to reports, the woman?was hesitant?to proceed with the marriage and expressed her desire to prepare for the UPSC exam.?
However, later?she?agreed to marry him?on the condition that?the man would assist her in her UPSC preparations. The couple tied the knot in February 2023 in Pratapgarh, but things did not go as the husband had planned.
Sought divorce soon after marriage
Just days into the marriage, the wife allegedly asked him for a divorce by mutual consent. When he refused, the woman left her?in-laws'?house and?went back?to her parents, cutting off all communication with him. The husband claimed that he tried to meet his wife on their first wedding anniversary, but she refused and even threatened to file a police complaint against him.

Last week, he filed a police complaint against his wife, claiming that his wife sought a divorce?¡°to take advantage of the divorce quota in UPSC exams.¡±?The wife filed a counter-complaint accusing the husband of dowry harassment.

There is no divorce quota
It should?be noted?that there is no specific quota for divorced women in the UPSC, which only provides reservations for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and persons with disabilities, along with an age relaxation of up to five years.
