A 40-year-old man was gored to death by a bull during the banned eruthu vidum vizha (bull race) at Vellakuttai in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as P Shanmugam of Veppalampattu village.

Shanmugam sustained injuries on the left side of his jaw when a bull ran into a group of people watching the bull race organised as part of the Pongal festival in Vellakuttai village.
Around 100 bulls were made to run during the eruthu vidum vizha. One of the bulls ran into spectators and rammed Shanmugam. The incident happened around 4.30pm.
Shanmugam, who sustained injuries, was rushed to Government Hospital in Vaniyambadi where he died around 6.15pm.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim's wife Kasthuri, Shanmugam was on his way to a temple in the vicinity when the bull attacked him.
The Alangayam police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPc (unnatural death).
The body was handed over to his family after postmortem.
Like jallikattu (bull-taming), eruthu vidum vizha is also a traditional sport in Tamil Nadu that has been banned by the Supreme Court.
