Devin, the so-called world's first fully autonomous AI software engineer just got some competition. Mufeed VH, an Indian developer has created Devika, an open source AI software engineer, similar to Devin.
According to Mufeed, Devika is an Agentic AI Software Engineer who can understand high-level human instructions, break them down into steps, research relevant information, and write code to achieve the given objective.?
Devika aims to be a competitive open-source alternative to Devin by Cognition AI.
The features of Devika include 12 agentic models that can interact with each other in a feedback loop to understand, browse, research, code, document, and make decisions according to the user's query to complete a project.
Devika supports Claude 3, GPT-4, GPT-3.5, and Local LLMs and can run the code she writes and fix or patch the code herself if she encounters any errors without user intervention.
The 21-year-old from Kerala's Thrissur, however, admits that Devika is not as capable as Devin, but is confident to reach there with the support of the open source community.?
"As of now, Devika is far from the capabilities of Devin... but we'll eventually get there," he said.
Devin, dubbed as the world¡¯s first fully autonomous AI software engineer was introduced last month by US-based AI startup Cognition.
According to Cognition, Devin can plan and execute complex engineering tasks requiring thousands of decisions. Devin also can recall relevant context at every step, learn over time, and fix mistakes.
Further, Devin has been equipped with common developer tools including the shell, code editor, and browser within a sandboxed compute environment¡ªeverything a human would need to do their work.
Devin also has the ability to actively collaborate with the user and can report on its progress in real time, accept feedback, and work together with users through design choices as needed.
