It was a highly emotional scene in Munnar's Pettimudi, as search and rescue teams were looking for those who were still missing from the landslide last week.
On Friday afternoon, the search and rescue team came across a dog near a river, some four kilometers away from where the landslide struck.
The rescue team felt that the dog was trying to communicate with them after it started repeatedly barking at them.
So they decided to follow the dog to the riverbank.
And they were right, the dog led them to a body, which was lying trapped among the dirt, in a tree under the bridge near Gravel Bank, four kilometres away from Pettimudi.
The body has been identified as Dhanuska, a two-year-old girl who was missing after the landslide on Friday.
The dog that led the rescuers to the spot has been identified as Kuvi, the family's pet and Dhanu's playmate.
According to some locals, the dog was spotted near the river since Friday morning and it had not left since then.
After the body was retrieved and brought ashore, Kuvi collapsed in front of the rescue team, unable to bear the loss of its playmate.
The body of Dhanuska's father Pradeep Kumar was recovered a couple of days ago, while her mother Kasthuri and sister Priyadarshini are still missing.
Dhanuska's grandmother is the only family member who is alive after the landslide swept away their house.
Kuvi is reportedly still searching around the debris of the landslide for its loved ones, who are yet to be found.
