No Ayodhya Tour Of Ram Lalla Idol On January 17: Here Is Why

Ahead of the Ram Temple consecration on January 22, the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has said that a procession of the idol in the holy city has been cancelled.

A grand procession scheduled for January 17 in Ayodhya has been cancelled, citing crowd management concerns raised by the security agencies.

This would have been the first public display of the Ram Lalla idol that is to be installed at the temple on January 22.

Ram Lalla idol chosen for installation

The Ram Lalla idol, which depicts Lord Ram's child form chosen for installation at the temple, is carved by sculptor Yogiraj Arun from Karnataka.

Designs by three sculptors were under consideration by the Trust, and the temple trust chose the idol by the fifth-generation sculptor from Mysore last week.

Devotees have to wait till Jan 22 to see Ram Lalla

The procession on January 17 across the Ayodhya city would have allowed devotees to glimpse the new idol ahead of the consecration ceremony.

Instead, the trust will arrange a tour of the new idol inside the premises of the Ram Janmabhoomi on the same day, a senior functionary of the Trust said, citing crowd management concerns raised by the security agencies.

Why procession was cancelled

The decision was taken by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust officials after meeting with the Acharyas of Kashi and senior administrative officials.

According to the Ayodhya district administration, it was discussed in the meeting that it would be difficult to control the crowd as devotees and pilgrims will rush to have 'darshan' of the new idol of Ram Lalla when it is taken out in the city.
