Police in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested the husband of a woman who died under mysterious circumstances, on charges of murder. The suspect, identified as Sandeep Budholia, was detained on Monday after he and his family members tried to pass off his wife Sonali Budholia's death as suicide.
However, Sandeep was exposed by the couple's four-year-old daughter Darshita, who in vivid detail described how her mother was murdered.
"Papa assaulted and killed mummy. He then said 'die if you want to'. He hanged her body and hit her head with a stone. Later, he brought down the body and dumped it inside a sack," Darshita said.
She even reproduced sketches showing how her mother was assaulted and killed.
Darshita further claimed that her father used to assault her mother regularly and even tried to kill her in the past.
"I had told him once that if you touch my mother, I will break your hand. He used to beat her, saying she should die and that I should meet the same fate as her," she said.
27-year-old Sonali Budholia died at the Jhansi Medical College on Monday, where her in-laws brought her in critical condition, claiming that the woman had attempted suicide.
Following her death, Sonali's father Sanjeev Tripathi said his daughter was facing harassment from her husband and in-laws soon after she got married to Sandeep in 2019.
According to Tripathi, despite giving Rs 20 lakh to her in-laws as dowry, Sonali was being harassed by them with demands for more, including a car.
He further alleged that things took a turn for the worse when Sonali gave birth to her daughter. Sandeep, who wanted a boy child, allegedly abandoned his wife at the hospital and only took her back after a month.
The father also revealed that the day before Sonali died, Sandeep had forced her to return early from a cousin's marriage. On Monday, he said Sonali's in-laws informed him that his daughter was hospitalised with some health issues but later claimed that she attempted suicide.
