Every Indian will now get a digital health ID, announced prime minister Narendra Modi, as he launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
The unique digital health card will contain the detailed health records of a citizen. It is not mandatory to link the health card with Aadhaar.
The mission, under which every Indian will get a unique 14-digit health identification (ID) number, has been renamed the Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM).
¡°PM Narendra Modi ji to announce nationwide rollout of Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission on September 27. Under this, a unique digital health ID will be provided to the people, which will contain all the health records of the person," Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had tweeted.
The ID will be created using an Aadhar Card or the beneficiary¡¯s mobile number, and will serve as an identifier to pull relevant health records.
However, as a new digital ID is being introduced, there's already a bunch of IDs that already exist.
Many are questioning the introduction of yet another ID, albeit digital, while several other IDs are functional and valid.
