The Indian Railways on Thursday reduced the prices of platform tickets to the pre-Covid era rates. The tickets will now be available for Rs 10 as before. The prices were earlier increased to Rs 30 with an aim of decongesting railway stations to contain the transmission of the virus.??
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the Central Railway has decided to reduce the price of platform ticket at key stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region from Rs 50 to Rs 10 from Thursday, an official said.
The platform ticket price will be reduced at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Thane, Kalyan and Panvel railway stations, he said.
Earlier this year, Mumbai division of the Central Railway had increased the price of platform ticket from Rs 10 to Rs 50 at these stations to discourage overcrowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This comes a days after Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) decided to resume serving freshly cooked meals in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, and Gatiman Express trains as the Covid-19 situation in the country stabilises.
The railways had already issued an order in this regard to all concerned departments and stakeholders earlier last week.
As per the order, the IRCTC will intimate the concerned Zonal Railway about the exact date from which onboard catering services with cooked food will be resumed in a particular train for the journeys falling within the Advanced Reservation Period.
In addition to this, Zonal officers are also required to inform e-ticket passengers through SMS and e-mail, who already booked tickets in advance regarding the resumption of cooked food supply.
For the tickets already booked, IRCTC will provide a facility on its website to opt for catering services and payment of the charges due in advance. This facility will be available for e-tickets as well as counter-ticket passengers.
For those passengers who already booked and have not opted for the same online, cooked food should be made available on demand in the train on a payment basis, subject to availability. The ticket checking staff onboard shall collect the catering charges due as per the approved rate list.
