This year, Ram Lalla will celebrate his first Holi after the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in January this year. To make it special, officials say Ram Lalla will use skin-friendly gulal made from Kachnar flowers. It's like a homecoming for Ram Lalla, as 'kachnar' is mentioned in the Ramayana and is considered the state tree of Ayodhya.?
The unique gulal was made by scientists from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI) for the occasion.?
They found out about kachnar during their research on medicinal plants and trees in Ayodhya. Inspired, they decided to try making herbal gulal with it.?
Dr. Ajit Kumar Shashani, Director of CSIR-NBRI said, "Kachnar was considered the state tree of Ayodhya in Treta Yuga and it has been used as a well-established medicine in our Ayurvedic system of medicine."?
As literature didn't mention using kachnar flowers for making gulal, the scientists conducted experiments to test its suitability.?
NBRI chief scientist SK Tiwari said, "We grinded kachnar flowers and tried making gulal by mixing it in a different solvent. The flower worked with one solvent and gave a beautiful mauve colour. Thereafter we added herbal talcum powder, herbal aroma and herbal essence to it and prepared around 25-30kg gulal."?
The scientists also created another herbal gulal using flowers from the Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur. These gulals, made from Kachnar flowers and those offered at the Gorakhnath Temple, come in lavender and sandalwood fragrances, respectively.?
The inauguration of the Ayodhya temple on January 22 fulfilled a decade-long wait for a temple at Ayodhya.?
The inauguration featured a grand Pran Pratistha ceremony attended by representatives from various major spiritual and religious sects in the country.?
Crafted by Arun Yogiraj, the black-coloured idol of Ram Lalla graces the temple, with its completion scheduled for December 2024.? ? ? ?
