Instances of missing children frequently remain unresolved. In a recent case, a teenager from Maharashtra left home following an argument with family members. Concerned when he didn't return, his family contacted the police. Eventually, the teenager was located, but he was discovered after enduring five harrowing days in a river infested with crocodiles.
19-year-old Aditya Bandgar, from Shirdon village in the west Maharashtra district of Kolhapur left his home on Monday, 18 March 2024, following an argument in his family.
By evening of the same day, his slippers were found on the banks of the Panchganga flowing through the village.
His family began a search for him, but ended up with nothing. That is when they filed a missing complaint with the Kurundwad police station.
Meanwhile, some villagers brought a boat from the Shirol tehsil office and initiated their own search operation. They also contacted the White Army, a local disaster rescue organisation.
With the assistance of the boat and the White Army rescue team, the search operation began on Monday evening and continued until Friday.?
Despite using a drone to locate the teenager, their efforts were in vain. Nitesh Vankore, a member of the White Army rescue team, mentioned encountering large crocodiles several times along the river stretch.
As they were returning on Friday, after concluding the search operation, which covered nearly 10km of the river stretch, Vankore said that they heard cries for help from behind a rock near the jackwell in the riverbed.?
Upon reaching the spot, they found Bandgar trapped in a mud pit approximately 10 feet deep, surrounded by water hyacinth.
The team then used a rope to pull him out of the mud.
Though Bandgar had suffered a leg fracture, at least he was found safe and sound. He has now been admitted to a hospital in Shirol.
