Authorities in Karnataka and Telangana are trying to identify the passengers on an inter-state bus from Bengaluru to Hyderabad after it came to light that a 25-year-old techie who had tested positive for Coronavirus had travelled on it.?
The techie, who is believed to have been contracted the infection during an official trip to UAE where he met software engineers from Hong Kong had returned to Bengaluru on February 19/20 and had gone to the office for two days before leaving for Hyderabad on February 22.
In Karnataka, the authorities are trying to get in touch with the techie's colleagues and neighbours who will be examined for the infection. The passengers on the bus are also being identified.?
Telangana health minister Etela Rajender said 'We have also shared details of his company and of the bus with our counterparts in Karnataka."?
Another major concern for the authorities is the reports that he had initially gone to an OP of Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad for cold and fever. It was only referred to the government-run Gandhi Hospital nearly a week later, where he was diagnosed coronavirus positive.
According to the Telangana health minister, the situation is under control and that the state government had prepared certain hospitals and special wards to handle coronavirus cases if detected.?
Rajender also hoped that the man would be cured as it happened in the case of Indians who previously tested positive for the virus.?
Identifying and observing those people the patients may have come into contact with is one of the toughest challenges in front of the authorities as it is vital to prevent the spread. However, in most cases, the detection comes late and by then the patient could have transmitted the virus to many others around them.?
On Monday, the Union Health Ministry had confirmed two new cases of Covid-19 in India, one in Telangana and another in Delhi. Both the patients had a history of foreign travel. The condition of the two individuals is said to be stable.?
On Monday, another suspected case had surfaced from Rajasthan where an Italian tourist had tested positive.?
Covid-19 which was first reported in Wuhan, China, and has since spread across the world has claimed more than 3000 lives across the globe so far. What makes the infection deadly is the fact that there is no known cure for the infection.?
A vaccine that has been developed is still in test phase and won't be available on the market before at least 18 months.
