The tragic suicide of Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhas has sparked nationwide outrage. Atul left behind a 24-page note alleging relentless harassment and extortion by his wife and family, whom he held responsible for his ordeal. The incident has led to a social media storm, with #JusticeForAtulSubhash trending on X as people demand that Accenture, where his wife works, terminate her employment. Meanwhile, a journalist from India Today who opposed these calls for termination is now facing public backlash.
Akshita Nandagopal, Editor and Anchor at India Today, took to X yesterday with her response to the tragic suicide of Atul Subhas.?
In her post, she stated, "While Atul's suicidal is tragic, to jump the gun and blame his wife is CRIMINAL. So many calls on social media for her to be fired, for her arrest are absolutely uncalled for."
Her comments came after news broke that Subhas had accused his wife of harassment in a 24-page suicide note, prompting widespread calls for her dismissal from her workplace, Accenture.
Akshita's stance quickly attracted backlash.?
One commenter fired back, "Her dismissal from Accenture is the bare minimum they should do after her husband's suicide. A man took his life because of her constant harassment, and you*re worried about calls for her arrest and firing?"
To this, Nandagopal responded by asking, "Has there been a probe? Have we heard from both sides? The bare minimum in any case?"
Others pointed out what they saw as double standards, recalling her previous harsh stance when she called for actor Dhanush to be "hanged" based solely on allegations from Tamil actresses.?
The media has already started to spit on the grave of this braveheart. What is the worth of mens life? News reporter from India today. Such a shame.
