The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that a "secret" extradition process was on to bring Vijay Mallya home but it was unaware of how things stood, as per a report in PTI.?
The Centre also said it was not involved in those proceedings.?
Justices Lalit and Ashok Bhushan asked Mallya's lawyer about the "secret" proceedings.?
Advocate Ankur Saigal said he had no clue.?
"I have knowledge that my request against extradition has been rejected," he said.?
It also informed Mallya's lawyers to inform the court by November 2 as to when he could appear and these proceedings would end.?
Advocate Rajat Nair, representing the Centre, said that the extradition request was made.?
"Some secret extradition proceedings are going on to which we are not a party. Extradition proceedings have been upheld by the highest court of UK but it has not been happening as of now," he said.?
Earlier the apex court had instructed Mallya to appear on October 5 and rejected his plea to review the 2017 verdict holding him guilty of contempt for transferring $40 million to his children which violated orders.?
Mallya is accused in a bank loan default case of over Rs 9,000 crore and is now in UK. ?
