Security Breach: 'Fake' Guide Accompanies US Envoy To Fatehpur Sikri
A grave breach in security occurred during the recent visit of US Ambassador to India, Eric Michael Garcetti, as he was accompanied by an unlicensed guide during his tour of Fatehpur Sikri in Agra just two days ago.
According to IANS, the unlicensed guide, identified as Shadab, joined the ambassador and his family during their visit to Agra. A video recorded by a licensed guide captured Shadab leading Garcetti and his family, even in the presence of accompanying police personnel.
Confirming the breach, Rajkumar Patel, the Superintending Archaeologist, mentioned that they received information about an unauthorised tourist guide guiding VVIPs around the monument. Patel emphasised that it is the responsibility of the police to take appropriate action against such unauthorised guides, particularly in matters concerning VVIP security.
What are the standard protocols?
As per standard protocols, only licensed guides are permitted to operate within the Taj complex and other monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Despite the tourism police station maintaining a list of authorised tour guides, the vicinity around the East and West Gates of the monument in Agra, as well as Fatehpur Sikri, often witnesses the presence of unauthorised guides, commonly referred to as 'lapka.'?
The incident is expected to undergo a thorough investigation.
