Indian Railways' unique offering, the Vande Bharat Express train, has caught passengers' attention for a while now and its sleeper version is being designed to travel at a speed of 220 km per hour.
The officials, however, have said that these aluminium-built sleeper version trains would run at a speed of 200 km per hour on the tracks.?
The chair car Vande Bharat Express trains are set to replace Shatabdi Express in a phased manner.?
At the same time, the upcoming sleeper version is being projected as an alternative to Rajdhani Express trains.
A tender for 400 Vande Bharat trains has been floated by the Indian Railways up until now, and approval for its work will be granted by the end of this month.?
According to the plan, the first 200 Vande Bharat trains will have seating arrangements on the lines of Shatabdi Express and will be designed to travel at a speed of 180 km per hour.?
But keeping the safety and security of railway tracks in mind, these trains, made of steel, will have their speed restricted to 130 km per hour.
This new train influx will enter the second stage - when 200 sleeper version Vande Bharat will come into the picture.
However, the officials have said that some trains in the initial lot could also be sleeper versions of the indigenously made trains.?
"Apart from this, anti-collision technical armour is being installed on both the railway routes at a cost of ? 1,800 crore," he added.?
In December 2022, the Ministry of Railways issued a tender for manufacturing 200 new rakes of Vande Bharat trains designed for sleeper class only. The tender reportedly was about 26,000 crore rupees with a working timeline of 24 to 30 months.
Five prominent companies, BHEL, BML, MEDHA, RVNL and ALSTOM INDIA, had come forward to claim the bid for the new-generation rakes of Vande Bharat trains.?
This sleeper version of Vande Bharat is set to have a Wi-Fi facility and LED screens to provide passenger information and infotainment.Additionally, it will have a photo-catalytic ultraviolet air purification system, automatic fire sensors, CCTV cameras and GPS systems to make travelling safer and more comfortable.
