23-year-old Sripathi has become the first tribal woman to be appointed as a Civil Judge in Tamil Nadu.
Sripathi who hails from Puliyur village in Tiruvannamalai District achieved the feat after she cleared the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Civil Judge exam conducted in 2023.
Sripathi who belongs to one of the most backward hilly regions in Tamil Nadu overcame several odds including financial difficulties to become a proud role model for her community.
Sripathi who was married at a young age continued to pursue her studies and became a law graduate.
She was pregnant with her first child when TNPSC issued the notification for the Civil Judge exam. And to make matters worse, the date of the exam coincided with her due date.
Undeterred, Sripathi and her husband Venkatraman, and her mother travelled to Chennai.
According to some claims on social media, Sripathi attended the exam just two days after giving birth and came out with flying colours.
Her achievement has been praised widely including by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
¡°I am delighted to see a young woman from a tribal community in a mountain village, without much amenities, achieve this status. I am proud to learn this and extend my congratulations to her mother and husband for their unwavering support. For those in Tamil Nadu who hesitate even to utter the word social justice, the success of individuals like Sripathi is Tamil Nadu¡¯s response!¡± Stalin wrote on social media.
According to DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson, Sripathi's achievement was aided by the Tamil Medium Act.
"The DMK government introduced 'The Tamil Medium Act', which grants 20% reservation to individuals who studied in Tamil medium schools under the PSTM quota. This policy is part of the Dravidian Model government of the Honourable Government of MK Stalin, which prioritizes Tamil-medium students in government jobs. It is through this policy that Sripathi was selected as a civil judge," he wrote on social media.
