India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar who met Secretary general of SCO, Vladimir Norov to review the progress in co-operation between member states of SCO as India prepares to take up the responsibility of chairing the council of SCO heads of government made the announcement on Twitter.?
Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar appreciated the SCO's efforts towards promoting tourism among member nations and asserted that the statue's inclusion in the list will "surely serve as an inspiration"."Appreciated the #SCO's efforts to promote tourism among member states. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), an international alliance of eight member states from Eurasia, has included the Statue of Unity among the ¡®Eight Wonders of the SCO¡¯. The eight-member states of the SCO are India, Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The 182-meter tall statue, which is also the world's tallest statue was declared open on October 31, 2018, by PM Narendra Modi on the occasion of Patel's 143rd birth anniversary.
The statue which was built at a cost of around Rs 3000 crore has since emerged as one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the country.
