Tragedy struck Alagarai village near Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu when a 6-year-old boy died after chewing on a country-made explosive thinking it was food, as per a report in India Today.??
The explosive belonged to three men who bought them to use for fishing near the banks of the Cauvery. They used 2 of the explosives and the unused one was brought home to their friend Boopathy.?
Boopathy's son was inside the house playing and like any 6-year-old, he got curious. He went for a closer look and thinking it was food, took a bite. It burst in his mouth and left him badly injured. He died before any medical assistance could be provided.?
Out of fear, Boopathy and his friends did not inform the authorities. Instead they performed his last rites overnight by themselves.?
The police got a tip about the boy's death and now 3 people have been arrested in connection with the incident. An investigation is being carried out.?
Police are also looking to come down hard on those using country explosives. This tragedy was a result of negligence on the part of the adults and it was a kid who had to pay with his life.?
