India¡¯s delivery landscape has changed drastically over the last few years, with various companies like Swiggy, BlinkIt, Zomato upping their game. A techie from Bengaluru was curious about the system and had a unique idea - to actually become a Swiggy delivery agent for a day.
With more than nine years of experience as a product manager, Namrata Singh wanted to try being a Swiggy delivery agent for a day out of curiosity about how technology powers the delivery process.
She states on LinkedIn, "I am a big fan of companies that generate employment for the less educated because these companies enable the lower class to rise up to middle class. Home grown brands like Urban Company, Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit & Ola have created multiple jobs for the lesser educated segment in India and this is going a long way in improving the economy of our country."
Namrata then writes down her learnings.
She shares that before confirming a delivery, a Swiggy agent can see the exact distance she needs to travel from her current location to the restaurant and then from the restaurant to the drop-off spot.?
What stands out most on the page is the amount the agent will earn after completing the delivery. Singh mentioned that this encourages the agent to accept more deliveries.
Once an agent accepts an order, she must update her status at various checkpoints, like when she reaches the pickup spot, collects the order, and delivers it.?
"The delivery agent has to post a picture of herself in her Swiggy uniform when she reaches the delivery location. This provides additional layer of safety to ensure the delivery is being done by the registered agent," Singh revealed.
After completing an order, almost half of the screen displays the amount earned by the agent, which Singh believes serves as an immediate reward for hard work.?
She also highlighted the SOS button available to agents for emergencies or accidents.?
She concluded by expressing her amazement at the thoroughness of the product and operation at each step.
