Karthiyani Amma, a 96-year-old woman from Kerala's Alappuzha who in August became the oldest 'student' to appear for the 'Aksharalaksham' literacy program of Kerala State Literacy Mission has cleared her exam in flying colours.
She cleared the exam scoring 98 marks out of 100.

Karthiyani Amma worked as a domestic help and sweeper to bring up her six children following the death of her husband. She was inspired to take up learning by her daughter who at the age of 60 cleared her Class X equivalent a couple of years ago.
After attending the literacy exam in August the 96-year-old had said that her next aim was to clear the Class X equivalent.?
A total of 42,933 candidates who attended the exam have cleared the literacy examination in Kerala, which constitutes a pass percentage of 99.084 per cent.
The candidates were tested for their skills reading, writing, and maths.
'Aksharalaksham,' which literally means a million letters is a project by the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority (KSLMA) aimed at eradicating illiteracy among aged and deprived population of Kerala.
