Rajasthan's Kota,?known as the hub of competitive exam coaching, was rocked by a triple suicide on Monday.
Three students preparing for competitive exams died of suicide in two separate incidents on Monday.
According to the police, two dead students were from Bihar, while the third was from Madhya Pradesh.
Ankush Anand, a NEET aspirant from Bihar's Supaul district, and Ujjwal Kumar, a JEE aspirant from Gaya district, were found hanging from ceiling fans in their respective rooms early Monday morning in the same Paying Guest accommodation in the Talwandi area, while Pranav Verma, a NEET aspirant from the MP's Shivpuri district, consumed some poisonous substance in his hostel under Kunhari police station area.
None of the three students left any suicide notes behind.
According to the police, Anand and Kumar had been preparing for their entrance exams in the same coaching institute in the city for around two years.
Both were irregular in attending their coaching classes for quite a long time and were out of track with their studies, and according to the police, that was likely to have driven them to study stress and to take the extreme step.
The duo was found dead on Monday morning after other students noticed their room was not open and informed the caretaker of the PG, who reported the matter to the police.
The police rushed to the PG, broke open the doors of the two rooms, and found the boys hanging from the ceiling fans.
The third student, Verma, was also taking coaching for NEET for the last two years. He?was found lying unconscious in the gallery of his hostel late Sunday night and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The three deaths in 12 hours have once again put Kota, home to around 150-200 exam coaching centres, in focus.
The coaching centres in Kota have long faced accusations of overburdening students to get them to clear the exams without focusing on their mental and physical well-being.
Many Kota students who live away from their families for the first time have struggled to adjust to the new atmosphere.
In addition, the constant pressure to perform well in the weekly mock tests has pushed many students into depression.
In 2018, 19 students died of suicide in Kota, while 7 in 2017 and 17 in 2016.
In May this year, four student deaths were reported in Kota, followed by one in April.
