In a move to empower the transgender community, the Madhya Pradesh government is set to bring an array of reforms in its transgender policy which comes into force by the end of November.
Promotion of mass marriages for transgenders, legal aid for rights to parental property, financial assistance for sex reassignment surgeries and law to punish those who call transgenders by offensive names are some of the highlights of the policy.
The government also plans to employ transgenders in government offices, sensitise police officials and health workers about them.
In the long term, the government plans to give them legal rights.
One stop centers, pension for persons of above age 55 years, shelter homes and old-age homes are some other provisions of the proposed policy.
Transgenders in the state can have a family as the MP government would organise mass marriages. It also proposes to amend laws to allow them to adopt a child as a single parent.
