Triple Olympian and former Indian hockey player N Mukesh Kumar, has been found guilty of obtaining a false SC ¡®A¡¯ Mala caste certificate and is likely to face action for falsification of facts with ¡®malafide intentions¡¯.
Mukesh represented India in three Olympics at Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000. He was also awarded the Arjuna Award in 1995 and the Padma Shri in 2003.
The Scheduled Castes Development Department in its government order dated May 28, 2018 (a copy of which is in the possession of TOI) directed the Hyderabad collector to ¡°take immediate action on the individual for obtaining false community certificate and on the erring officials involved in issuing false certificate to N Mukesh Kumar ...¡± Mukesh¡¯s brother, Suresh, too was held guilty of the same offence.
Upholding the earlier order of the then district collector, Navin Mittal, dated September 24, 2009, Buddha Prakash Jyoti, secretary to government, said: ¡°Government, after examining the matter and the material available with it, concludes that there is no reason to interfere with the orders issued by the district collector, Hyderabad, and dismisses the appeal filed by the petitioners.¡±

In 2007, chief manager (vigilance), Indian Airlines Limited, Chennai, had requested Mittal to initiate an inquiry into the SC ¡®A¡¯ Mala caste certificate¨Cafter IA officials filed a complaint saying the brothers do not belong to the SC community¨Cfurnished at the time of securing employment by them.
After an inquiry by the revenue division officer, Secunderabad, it was concluded that Mukesh and Suresh had fraudulently obtained and produced the SC caste certificate.
