In the wake of coronavirus and a wave of misinformation and fake news floating on social media about the virus, the authorities have tightened the noose around those who are found guilty of spreading rumours about the same.
In one such case, the Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a fake Godman, who had been selling talisman for merely Rs 11 claiming to cure coronavirus.
The fake Godman Ahmad Siddiqui had put up a board outside his shop in Daliganj area in state capital Lucknow, claiming that he had a cure for the deadly virus.
The board said that those who could not wear a mask could use the talisman to keep corona away.
The chief medical officer had informed the police officials about the baba. The police swung into action and arrested the accused for fraud and forgery.
Additional Police Commissioner (west) Vikas Chandra Tripathi said that the accused calls himself "Corona Wale Baba" and has been duping innocent people.
Lucknow now has two patients who have tested positive for coronavirus while 11 patients have been put up in the isolation wards and their reports are awaited.
India has a total of 85 confirmed cases of coronavirus and with two people dead.?
The total number of positive cases around the world have crossed 1,50,000 and the deaths registered are now close to the 6,000 mark.
