Vikas Dubey: 8 Uttar Pradesh Policemen Including DSP Killed In Encounter With Notorious Gangster In Kanpur

In a shocking incident, eight policemen including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)?were killed in an encounter in Kanpur on Friday.The police team was in Dikru village under the Chaubeypur police station on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday to arrest one Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter who has more than 60 criminal cases against him.?

As the police team was about to reach the hideout of the dreaded criminal, a hail of bullets was showered on them from a building rooftop, leaving Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead.?

Seven policemen were also injured in the encounter and they have been rushed to a hospital.?

It is suspected that Dubey's gang had received information about the raids in advance and had laid an ambush.Dubey's henchmen put up massive roadblocks to prevent the police personnel from proceeding towards their hideout.As the police team was caught unawares, the criminals fired at them from a building rooftop leading to the deaths.?

Dubey has a history of crimes including the involvement in the killing of Santosh Shukla, an MoS-rank BJP leader inside a police station in 2001.

Following the encounter the family members of Dubey are now claiming that Dubey has not been home since the past two days.A woman relative, possibly his sister-in-law, told TV channels that Vikas Dubey had not come home since the past two days and it was the police that fired at the house in the wee hours of Friday.?

Two other members of the family who refused to identify themselves, said that 'some people' may have come on their roof during the incident but Vikas was not present.The local villagers, meanwhile, also claimed that they were not present in the village when the firing took place.?

Meanwhile, two criminals, purportedly belonging to the Vikas Dubey gang was shot dead by the police, hours after the incident.A firearm that had been looted by the assailants from the police, has been recovered from them which substantiates the fact that they belonged to the Dubey gang.The encounter took place in Kanshi Ram Nivada village. IG Kanpur Mohit Agarwal, who led the team, said that local people had identified the two as Prem Prakash and Atul Dubey.
