Infosys has found itself in hot water for allegedly evading crores in taxes, and the internet's reaction? It's digging up Narayan Murthy's infamous "70-hour" work week comment and giving it a fresh round of meme trials.?
Infosys is under investigation by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence for allegedly evading over Rs 32,000 crores in integrated goods and services tax from July 2017 to 2021-2022, according to a document dated July 30, 2024, as ET reports.?
The investigation focuses on services Infosys received from its foreign branches during this period, as reported by Reuters.?
In response, Infosys stated in an exchange filing that it has settled all dues and maintains that GST does not apply to the expenses in question.?
Interestingly, Infosys provides technology support for Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) portal and as per news reports, the contract will be ending in September 2024.
With Infosys now hit with a massive GST bill, the internet is bringing back Narayan Murthy's notorious advice on "70-hour" work weeks. It seems the Internet never forgets, and Infosys and Murthy are stealing the spotlight!
