Among all those volunteers, one stood out, 14-year-old Abhi!
Bengaluru-based urban conservationist and tree doctor Vijay Nishanth who was in Bandipur since Sunday spotted the teenager among the volunteers, working tirelessly to put out the fire.
"Abhi might have walked some 7 kms all by himself to reach there. He was so passionate about what he was doing. He worked so hard, harder than many volunteers who are double his age," Nishanth told Indiatimes.
"When I saw him the first time, his face was like almost burnt, due to the exposure to the fire. But there was not stopping in him," he added.?
Calling him a inspiration to others, Nishanth said he felt sad that he couldn't thank him enough for what he did.
"These are really tough times for us. But actions like what Abhi did in Bandipur make me happy. What he did was truly inspirational. Everyone cheered for him for his enthusiasm. As we were leaving, I wanted to thank him, but I couldn't because he had disappeared," he said.
