Siwan police have provided security to two local leaders who apprehend a threat to their lives after the release of former RJD MP Mohd. Shahabuddin from jail last week even as the security cover has been enhanced for two witnesses in cases against him.
With this development, police have provided security to total 20 people in Siwan district who face threat from the murder convict.

Siwan SP Saurabh Sah said all those who have been provided security "have political rivalry or personal enmity with Shahabuddin".
Among the witnesses whose security has been enhanced is Chadrakeshwar Prasad alias Chanda Babu, whose three sons were brutally killed.

While two of Chanda Babu's sons, Satish and Girish, were killed in 2004, the third son, Rajeev Roshan, was a witness to the murder of his brothers.
Roshan was killed in 2014, a few days before he was to record his statement in the murder case of his brothers.

Security of a witness in the Srikant Bharti murder case has also been enhanced.

Police said there were also chances of dormant criminals and shooters, who had earlier worked for Shahabuddin, becoming active again. "We are observing the activities of these persons," the SP said.
"Several locations of Muhammad Kaif alias Bunty, one of the associates of Shahabuddin, were raided in the last two days after he was spotted with the RJD leader on Saturday," Sah said.

Police believe it was Kaif who had kept Shahabuddin informed about the movement of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, who was allegedly killed at the behest of the RJD leader on May 13 this year. Kaif, who runs a cricket academy in Siwan along with Javed Bhat, has been evading arrest since Ranjan's murder.
