Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. And their thinking too seems to be from two different planets, quite literally. In a modern example of this, a female law clerk changed her email writing style to match that typically associated with men and posted her views online - and her results were very interesting.
Myra Sran, a 26-year-old law clerk from Canada, sends numerous emails daily.?
She often carefully considers the wording to be polite yet direct.?
However, she finds that not all her colleagues do the same.?
Speaking to Newsweek, she revealed that many of her male colleagues have a more casual email style, resembling texting, which frustrates her.
Sran decided to write an email in her usual polite manner and then revise it to sound "like a man who makes 30x my pay."?
She stripped away all pleasantries, making the email blunt and to the point.
Sran explained that she was exchanging emails with a lawyer who communicates in a very direct manner, and she found it amusing how different his clerk's emails were from his own.
"Then it hit me how differently both genders write emails. If I respond with the same energy that they're sending emails with, I'd get called out for being rude."
Motivated by this realisation, she shared a video on TikTok (@lilmritzy), demonstrating how she edited her email to remove unnecessary words before sending it. The video quickly went viral, sparking a debate among viewers.
Reflecting on the viral response, Sran told Newsweek, "The discussions in the comments took me by surprise because it seems like the TikTok video started a controversy debate between both genders. The comments are mostly women agreeing they can't speak in the same manner, and a lot of men confirming that they talk much less."
