In April this year, a video showing women in Rohile village in Nashik descend into well, risking their lives, to fetch water due to shortage of water went viral.
It is shocking, but the stories we've heard so far are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the acute water crisis faced by the city. And, the plight of women in Nashik is only getting worse with it.
Now, women in a remote village in Nashik are walking 3km to fetch muddy water for their families from a well that is nearly-dry. A video posted by news agency ANI on Twitter shows a man fetching muddy water from a well where the water level had dropped to below the base level.

The video highlights the extremity that villagers have to go through to extract drinkable water from the muddy water that was fetched from deep inside a nearly-dry well.?
More than 20 vessels are placed around the well, and they are dropped one by one into the well, where a man fills it up with muddy water and sends it back.In the video, villagers can be seen filtering the muddy water.
They run the unclean water fetched from the well through a piece of cloth which filters out the sediments and dirt, to provide somewhat drinkable water to the residents of the village.
Women are also seen carrying 2-3 pails of water on their heads and walking for long distances to ensure that their family has water to drink on a daily basis.
Less than a week ago, women in Tiradshet village of Nashik took to streets to protest against severe water shortage that remains a constant struggle for decades now.
Earlier, the Maharashtra Chief Minister¡¯s Office (CMO), in a statement, said that there was only 37 percent stock of water in the reservoirs of the state. It also added that water scarcity-hit areas were being provided by 401 tankers as the government was working to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the public.
According to a report by the Aurangabad divisional commissioner¡¯s office, only seven out of the 76 urban centres across the eight districts of the Marathwada region received regular water supply. It also revealed that the gap between two water supplies ranged from one to 15 days.
