Welcome to the future, where instead of humans attending meetings, AI will take the rein! Zoom¡¯s CEO has revealed the company is planning to introduce AI avatars that would attend meetings on behalf of the user. While this may sound like the stuff of dystopian nightmares, let's take a step back. It may actually be good news, moving us closer to a four-day workweek!
Zoom CEO Eric Yuan recently revealed in an interview that the company is pioneering advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to revolutionise virtual meetings.?
Yuan envisions a future where AI avatars will be integrated into Zoom's Workplace platform, offering users an improved work-life balance.
AI avatars are digital representations of individuals created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. These avatars can mimic human behavior, speech, and appearance to varying degrees of realism. In the context of virtual meetings or communication platforms, AI avatars can be used to represent users in virtual environments, allowing them to interact with others without physically being present.?
"We're moving towards a future where everyone has their own AI assistant," he shared.?
According to Yuan, this innovative approach will allow users to offload routine tasks to AI-powered virtual assistants, thereby creating more opportunities for face-to-face interactions and potentially leading to a more adaptable work schedule.
AI avatars might edge us towards a four-day workweek. "That's the direction. That's part of our Workplace [platform]. It's our 2.0 journey," Yuan emphasised.?
According to him, this could materialise when everyone possesses their own Large Language Model (LLM), acting as the backbone for AI-driven digital twins.?

"We'll each have our own LLM, essentially the cornerstone for the digital twin. Then, I can rely on my digital twin. Sometimes, I'll choose to join, and other times, I can dispatch my digital twin to represent me. That's the future."
