Thirty-seven years after he committed a crime,?Raghunath?Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, wanted in connection with a case of motorcycle loot in 1983, was finally arrested on Thursday.
He carried a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Grover said that three persons were booked in the loot of a motorcycle from a bank manager in Managadhi in 1983.
Two of them had earlier been arrested and remanded to judicial custody and the motorcycle was recovered from their possession.
The third accused?Raghunath?Singh, however, was absconding. A source close to the other two accused, reportedly informed the police about the presence of?Singh?in Mathura on Thursday after which he was arrested.
In July, a man was arrested nearly 38 years after he allegedly robbed a bank. According to sources, he was elected as the village sarpanch despite being named in several cases. The accused has more than 40 cases in his name. Police said that the 65-year-old is a former bandit who had a role in many robberies. The accused is Shaktidaan Singh. 38 years ago, he attempted to rob a bank and had allegedly murdered 3 persons.
In 1982, Shaktidaan Singh attempted a bank dacoity under the limits of the Akbargarh police station in Banaskantha, Gujarat. During the dacoity, Singh murdered three persons, including a police official. Since the robbery, Singh had been a wanted criminal, TOI reported.
