Days after reports emerged that Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been arrested in the US, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has confirmed the development. According to ICE, Anmol Bishnoi, who was arrested by US law enforcement, is currently under detention at the Pottawattamie County Jail in the city of Iowa.?
Anmol Bishnoi, who is wanted by the NIA and Mumbai Police in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the firing outside actor Salman Khan's house, and other cases, was detained in California by the US Immigration Department last week.??
The whereabouts of Anmol Bishnoi, who is believed to have fled India in April 2022, were unknown until recently when the US informed Indian agencies about his presence there. In October, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his arrest.??
Following the US inputs, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch had initiated the extradition process to bring Anmol Bishnoi back to India.??

Though he has been arrested, it is yet unclear if Anmol Bishnoi will be extradited to face the law in India. According to a Times of India report, Anmol Bishnoi, through his lawyer, has already filed for asylum in the US, making the extradition process complicated. According to the report, Anmol Bishnoi could have deliberately surrendered before the ICE to seek asylum. The move would delay his possible deportation to India until the US Citizenship and Immigration Services decides on his asylum claim.??
There are also reports that Anmol Bishnoi could be extradited to Canada, where is wanted for gang-related crimes.
Earlier, on Monday, the US State Department had declined to comment on the potential deportation of Anmol Bishnoi, stating that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).??
