Just a few days after Unacademy laid off people as a cost-cutting exercise, E-commerce firm Meesho has laid off 150 employees from its grocery business.?
The move comes just a few days after they restructured and rebranded as Meesho Superstore from Farmiso.?
Last week, the company said it would integrate the grocery vertical into its main app. This also led to talks about redundancies within their firm.?
"About 150 full-time employees will be impacted by the restructuring of Meesho Superstore, which aims to bring inefficiencies. The company offers severance packages and outplacement assistance to help those impacted secure new opportunities outside the company.¡±
Meesho turned down these claims as they stuck to their claim of 150 employees being laid off.
According to a blogpost posted by Meesho on Monday,?¡°The redundancies do not impact any positions at the core Meesho marketplace business, where we continue to hire and grow talent."
A sacked employee spoke to ET and said Meesho now wants to pivot its grocery business and move to a different model that won¡¯t rely on city-level executives. The employee also claimed that none of them were given any prior notice about their terminations.
