Mukesh sexual abuse case: Malayalam actress withdraws case against MLA, says she is 'mentally exhausted’

Malayalam actress withdraws complaint against Mukesh

Malayalam actor Mukesh recently made headlines when a 51-year-old actress accused him of sexual abuse. This came in the wake of certain observations made by the Justice Hema Committee. The report stated there have been quite a few instances of women being harassed in the Malayalam film industry over the years.?

Now, in the latest development, the complainant has decided against pursuing the case any further. On Friday, November 22, the actress said that she is withdrawing the complaint because of the Kerala government's ‘carelessness’. She added that she is ‘exhausted’ because of the ‘bullying’. The actress, however, emphasised that she has not reached a ‘compromise’ with anyone.

“I would like to tell everyone that due to the government’s carelessness and lack of protection for a woman who has come forward like this, I have suffered more than I can handle. I am mentally exhausted. They are not helping or protecting a woman. Therefore, I do not want to pursue the cases. It is not because I have compromised with anyone," she was quoted as saying by News18.?

She further added that she was made an accused in a POSCO case after she made allegations against film personalities but the government didn’t come forward to protect her.?

What’s the POSCO case against her?

Some time ago, the Muvattupuzha police filed a complaint against the actress under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) act after receiving a complaint from a relative. The police stated that the complaint was filed because of an incident that took place in 2014. They further stated that the actress’ relative accused her of running a sex racket.?

The actress denied the allegations and stated that the relative owed her some money. She also said that these allegations were made to divert attention from her remarks about top Malayalam actors.?

Coming back to the Hema Committee, it was established by the Kerala government in 2017 to look into cases of sexual abuse in Mollywood. The committee interacted with several professionals from the industry before submitting its report to the government in 2019. Certain portions of this report were later made public. They revealed the existence of a power group in the industry. Following this, several women recounted instances of harassment in Mollywood
