In yet another gruesome incident of cruelty, a pregnant cat was hung to death in front of a house in Thiruvanathapuram, following which a case has now been registered.
The incident occurred on Sunday at a house in nearby Palkulangara which was being used as a recreation club by some people for consuming liquor and playing cards, news agency PTI reported. On the basis of a complaint filed by Parvathy Mohan, Campaign coordinator for Federation for Indian Animal Protection organisation and Latha, Kerala secretary of People for Animals, police have registered an FIR for cruelty against animals.

The incident came to light after Parvathy Mohan narrated it on her Facebook Post. The animal rights activists, according to news agency PTI, have alleged that the club members had the other day after consuming liquor killed the cat, by hanging it, for fun.
Though police was informed, they had initially refused to register a case, as per the post. The post also wanted that those behind the crime should be brought to book.
While the conflict between the wild animals and humans have been reported significantly and competent authorities have taken several steps to contain such clashes, the outright cruelty that some of us display towards animals is increasing at a rampant pace.?
According to PETA, every day, countless cats, dogs and other animals suffer and die at the hands of the very people who are supposed to care for and protect them.?
BJP MP and Animal Rights Activist Maneka Gandhi, who has long been calling for the protection of animals, recently contended that the judiciary is taking note of animal cruelty, and intervening in areas where the executive is too lazy, indifferent, or too vote conscious to intervene. This, she said, is happening all over the world.?

Notably, on August 19 this year, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) released a resolution regarding animal cruelty.?
¡°Empirical research demonstrates a direct link between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence, including partner abuse, child abuse, and elder abuse. In homes where serious animal abuse has occurred, there is an increased probability that some other type of family violence is also happening. The NCJFCJ is committed to upholding the rights of all parties and victims, the safety of all family members, and the safety of the community. Animal cruelty is a crime of violence and may be indicative of past or future violent acts,¡± it said.
This incident of a pregnant cat being hanged to death in God¡¯s Own Country is a blot on humanity and we must all come together to prevent such abuses. More than anything else, strict legislation to prohibit cruelty towards animals, is the need of the hour.
