IPL 2024 Auction: The event happening in Dubai today might not be as big as the two-day IPL mega auction, but it's still noteworthy. IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai today, witnessed some eye-popping deals as Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins stole the show at the auction. Making a comeback to the IPL after eight years, Starc bagged a whopping Rs 24.75 crore deal with Kolkata Knight Riders, setting a new all-time record in the tournament.

Cummins, who held the previous record, was not far behind, securing Rs 20.5 crore from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shifting the focus to Indian players, Harshal Patel and Shivam Mavi also grabbed attention with their performances. The auction not only showcased international players with big bucks being spent on them but also highlighted the rising stars from the Indian cricket circuit.

The 10 teams in the league are geared up with a substantial budget of Rs 262.95 crore for player acquisitions. Among them, Gujarat Titans (GT) lead the pack with an impressive Rs 38.15 crore at their disposal, closely trailed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with the second-largest purse of Rs 34 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also have substantial funds, each boasting a budget exceeding Rs 30 crore.

Delhi Capitals (DC), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS)are not far behind, equipped with budgets of Rs 28.95 crore, Rs 23.25 crore, and Rs 29.1 crore, respectively, to shape up their player rosters. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians (MI), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have comparatively smaller budgets, standing at Rs 17.75 crore, Rs 13.15 crore, and Rs 14.5 crore, respectively, making their war chests the smallest among the competing teams.

These financial allocations will play a crucial role in the upcoming player auctions, influencing the strategic decisions of each franchise as they aim to build a competitive and well-balanced team for the upcoming season.

A total of 77 slots are up for grabs for the franchises, with 213 Indian players and 116 foreigners in the mix. The process is straightforward: players are grouped based on their skills and will be available for selection as their names are drawn from the pool. Mallika Sagar, who recently led the WPL auction, is set to make history by becoming the first female auctioneer in the 16-year-long history of the IPL, taking over from Hugh Edmeades.

When it comes to the price categories, there's a variety to choose from. The top tier commands a Rs 2 crore price tag, with 23 players, including Harry Brook, Pat Cummins, Chris Woakes and Umesh Yadav, vying for it. Following closely are the Rs 1 crore, Rs 75 lakh, Rs 50 lakh, and Rs 20 lakh brackets, providing a diverse range of choices for the teams. This adds an extra layer of excitement to the auction as teams strategize and bid for the players who fit their plans and budgets.
