Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Rinku Singh and his teammates sought blessings at Kolkata's Kalighat temple ahead of their clash with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. The visit comes as KKR aims to break their losing streak against LSG.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Rinku, along with Anukul Roy, Venkatesh Iyer, and Varun Chakaravarthy, was seen performing rituals at the historic temple.?
Ahead of high-voltage home matches, it has become a tradition for KKR players to visit the Kalighat Temple. Over the years, Kolkata team members have frequently visited the shrine to seek blessings.?
In the previous IPL edition, just before the intense clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, the then skipper Nitish Rana and coach Chandrakant Pandit were seen at the Kalighat Temple in Kolkata, seeking blessings.
As per reports, the Kalighat Temple, currently undergoing renovation, is being restored to its former glory while preserving its original charm.
Led by conservation architect Kalyan Chakraborty and artist Tamal Bhattacharya, the renovation project focuses on enhancing the temple's artwork and architectural features. Bhattacharya, with a personal connection to the temple, is meticulously recreating intricate designs to revive its beauty.
The renovation efforts include standardizing tiles, repainting pillars, gilding pots, and implementing improvements for ventilation and drainage. Bhattacharya sees this project as a way to give back to Kolkata, honouring his family's ties to the temple.
On the cricket front, Rinku has scored 63 runs in four matches this season, with a notable six against LSG in IPL 2023. Venkatesh has contributed 65 runs, including a half-century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In bowling, Varun Chakaravarthy has claimed four wickets, while Anukul Roy is yet to shine.
KKR, currently second in the points table with three wins in four games, aims to bounce back after a loss to Chennai Super Kings. They started the season with wins against Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB, and Delhi Capitals. Now, they set their sights on a victory against LSG led by Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a defeat against the defending champions.
