India on Friday improved its medal tally in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 to six after wrestler Aman Sehrawat won a bronze in the 57 kg weight category. Sehrawat's bronze is India's first medal in this Olympics from wrestling.?Sehrawat won the bronze medal by defeating his Puerto Rican opponent Darian Cruz 13-5, at a time when the Indian wrestling contingent was staring at the possibility of returning empty-handed for the first time since 2008.
In winning bronze, Sehrawat, who is aged 21 years, 0 months, and 24 days, also became the youngest Indian to bag an Olympic medal. He broke the record set by shuttler PV Sindhu in Rio in 2016, when she became India's youngest Olympic medal winner at 21 years, 1 month, and 14 days old when she won silver.
An ecstatic Sehrawat said that he still couldn't believe that he had won a medal for his country.
"I am very happy, and I still can't believe that I have won a medal for the country at the Olympics... I was hoping for the gold, but I am happy with bronze as well...," Aman told ANI.
Sehrawat said he would dedicate the medal to his late parents and the people of the country.
"I would like to dedicate this medal to my parents and the people of India," Sehrawat told JioCinema.
