Freestyle wrestler Aman Sehrawat on Friday scripted history by becoming the youngest Indian athlete to win an Olympic medal. Sehrawat won the bronze in men's freestyle wrestling in the 57kg category at the Paris Olympics 2024, at the age of 21 years, 0 months, and 24 days.?The record was previously held by star shuttler PV Sindhu, who won her first Olympic medal, a silver at the Rio Olympics 2016, when she was 21 years, 1 month, and 14 days old.
Born in Birohar in Jhajjar district of Haryana on July 16, 2003, Sehrawat took to wrestling, inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal win in the 2012 Olympics. At the age of 10, his father got the young Sehrawat enrolled at the famed Chhatrasal Stadium in North Delhi.

At the Chhatrasal Stadium, Sehrawat was mentored by legendary wrestling coach Mahabali Satpal, who also nurtured the likes of Yogeshwar Dutt, Bajrang Punia, and Ravi Dahiya.
Sehrawat, who started competing at the national level in 2021, got his biggest break on the international scene in 2022 when he won the gold medal at the Under-23 Asian Championships, becoming the first-ever Indian to do so.
In 2023, Sehrawat won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships and a bronze at the 2022 Asian Games.
In January this year, Sehrawat also won the gold medal in the men's 57kg event at the Zagreb Open wrestling tournament.
Sehrawat, who said that it was his parents' dream to see him become a wrestler, dedicated his Olympic bronze to them.
"I would like to dedicate this medal to my parents and the people of India," Sehrawat said.
He also promised to win a gold medal for India in the next Olympics.
"I would like to say to the people of India that I will definitely win a gold for you in 2028," he said.
