Camilla the Queen Consort of the United Kingdom and the wife of King Charles III, who will be the new British monarch, will receive the Queen Mother's famous Kohinoor crown, reports have claimed.
Earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth had announced that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, would become Queen Consort when Charles accedes to the throne.?
As the new Queen Mother, which is just a titular role for Camilla unlike Queen Elizabeth II, she will be wearing the Kohinoor diamond, which is set in a platinum crown.
The Kohinoor is a 105.6-carat diamond that went on to become a symbol of the British monarchy and was found in India in the 14th century.
In 1849, after the annexation of Punjab, the diamond ended up in the hands of the British.
According to the British, the Kohinoor, like other assets of the Maharaja was ceded to Queen Victoria, though many have disputed the claim.
The Kohinoor Crown was created in 1937 for the coronation of King George VI and has been part of the British Crown Jewels since then.
The crown boasts a platinum frame and is set with 2,800 diamonds including the Kohinoor.
Over the years, four countries, including India, Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan have claimed ownership of Kohinoor and have demanded its return, something that the British have vehemently declined.
75-year-old Camilla is the second wife of Charles III and was once said to be one of the most hated figures in Britain.
Although the couple married in 2005, they were romantically involved before Charles married Dayana and continued the relationship even after the marriage.
Camilla has been blamed for the breakdown of the marriage between Charles and Princess Diana which ended in divorce in 1995.
Princess Diana, the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry died in a car crash in 1997, a black episode in the history of the royal family, still shrouded in mystery.
Ever since the marriage, Camilla has tried to clean up her image and one of her first acts was to take the title of Duchess of Cornwall, instead of Princess of Wales, the title held by Diana.
Palace officials said for years that Camilla ¡°intended¡± to be known as ¡°Princess Consort¡± ¡ª instead of the traditional ¡°Queen Consort¡± ¡ª when Charles acceded to the throne.
In 2021, Camilla was made a Royal Lady of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the most senior order of chivalry in Britain.
