It is being described as the most important and the biggest speech of her career as Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic presidential nomination. The incumbent US Vice President delivered an impassioned speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.
In her acceptance speech, Harris paid tributes to her mother Shymala Gopalan.
"My mother was brilliant 5 foot tall brown woman with an accent. She was tough, courageous and a trailblazer in the fight for women's health. She taught us to never complain about injustice but to do something about us," Harris said.
She also invoked her mother as she accepted the Democratic presidential nomination.
"On behalf of every American, on behalf of my mother and on behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation of Earth, I accept your nomination to be president of the United States of America," she said.
Harris also thanked outgoing US President Joe Biden, calling him 'inspiring'.
"Joe, I am filled with gratitude. Your record is extraordinary as history will show. Your character is inspiring," she said.
During her speech, she pledged to be the "president who unites" Americans and "fight for America's future".
"With this election, our nation has a precious and fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism, and divisive battles of the past. A chance to chart a New Way Forward, not as members of any one party or faction but as Americans,"?Harris?said.
In front of an energetic Democratic crowd, Harris also went after her Republican rival, Donald Trump. Harris?said a second term by the Republican ex-president would "pull our country back to the past."
"We know what a second Trump term would look like," she said in her address accepting her party's presidential nomination. "It's all laid out in 'Project 2025,' written by his closest advisors, and its sum total is to pull our country back to the past," she said.
